Historic Edenton, NC

We spent yesterday in historic Edenton, NC attending their 300th Anniversary Celebration...Edenton was  North Carolina's first capitol founded in 1712 and it's first Governor was Charles Eden who was appointed by the British Crown...
The architecture here is from the Colonial and Civil War era but it has an added touch of southern charm...Myrtles, Cypress and Magnolias are everywhere...
While we waited for the ceremonies to begin, we watched the local native Meherin tribe perform tribal dances and sing their tribal melodies...
Then Governor Eden appeared in the Sound aboard the "Silver Chalice", a replica of the small ships used in this area in the 17th and 18th centuries...
This is the historical courthouse in which he and Governor Pat McCrory addressed the waiting crowd ...We did get wet a few times  by passing showers!!
This beautiful copper teapot marks the spot where Penelope Barker once lived...She organized the first colonial and political protest by local women...they refused to drink British tea or buy British cloth.
This is the old and very colonial Cupola House circa 1773...I wish I had more time and less humidity to explore this historical town...I'll have to add it to my bucket list...
Finally, gardens like this were everywhere... Ahhh, I would love to have this in my backyard!! All in all, it was a very nice way to spend the day.
~Hope you have a wonderful weekend~

Tina
