~ Dreaming ~

I finally got up the nerve to stop the car and take some pictures. Every time I travel to Virginia, I pass this wonderful old colonial house continuing to waste  away. I always make sure that I don't miss it and now I know all the markers around it...so that I can start slowing down. It is one of the highlights of my long drive...
It has been abandoned and it is slowly deteriorating...There are crop fields all around it and it looks as if they receive more attention than this beautiful shell of a home...There are many matching outbuildings scattered within walking distance of the back door...and this little garage type building off to the side.
It has two grand chimneys and  what I would consider a "colonial shape" ...Despite the years of neglect, it still has quite a bit of charm...I had to use my zoom lens to get a closer shot...The glass in the windows look original and the front doors look old...In fact, it looks as if the owners just decided to leave one day...
Another interesting thing is that it has no gutters, how old must it be for that!?....The woods behind it are being cleared and we just noticed the old shack in the distance...It is a good walk from the house and looks as if it may have been an overseer's house or possibly a slave shack...It was exciting to see another layer of history added to  this property...I wonder who lived there, what time period, and what they contributed to the owners of the main house...
This property has done nothing but inspire me and spark my imagination...It seems to have been a grand old place at one time. It has all the hallmarks of wealth...It is a stately home with two chimneys, out buildings that all match the house, large fields surrounding and a servant house located far enough away as to not ruin the view of the home... I would love more than anything to know her history ...But most of all, I would love to know why the property owners are letting my dream house  slowly crumble into shambles... She was the Grand Dam of  her time and she has so many stories that will never be heard.
Take Care,
Tina

oh my, this always makes me sad....when I see a home like that, I always think, "families use to live there, have wonderful Sunday dinners, Christmas, happy times and now the home sits empty....so sad....wish someone could buy it and restore it to it's former glory!

I am always saddened when I see what was once a lovely old home, fading away, uncared for and unloved. I think of who must have built it, lived in it..the good times and bad....why did noone want to care of it any longer...too sad.
