...Once in a Blue Moon...

I hope you enjoy this most magical night...not only is it the eve of a new year but it's also a blue moon...I don't think you'll find a moon like this outside your window tonight...they're not really blue! It just happens to be the second full moon in a month. The next blue moon will cycle through in a couple of years...but probably not on New Years Eve...I think I'm spinning in circles here...but you get my point...oh, and watch out for werewolves!!!

...Winter = Blues...

Christmas has passed and New Years is fast approaching...I can't help but feel a little blue because another year has somehow slipped through my hands. It makes me wonder why we even keep track of time. It passes by whether we are ready for it or not...maybe it would be better if we just enjoyed it as one continuous experience rather than in the quantity of years( I know I'm getting deep...bear with me). I'm convinced that I would be rid of these hum drums if I wasn't made aware that another year is at a close...These are wistful thoughts but I'm a slave to time just like everybody else so I ride out these blues and recover unnoticed...and I blog about them !!!
***
Tomorrow I need to pick up a nice large head of cabbage for our traditional New Years Day supper. Our traditional supper consists of tons of black eye peas, cabbage and cornbread slathered in butter. The cabbage equals dollars and the black eye peas equals change(coins) and the objective is wealth in the coming year. So you eat as much as you can for prosperity in the new year. This is one of our family's southern traditions. My husband who is originally from way up north( yes, I call him a yankee) had never heard of this...and probably thought my whole family and I were crazy... To make a long story short, he married me and he has been eating this every year for the past 23 years!! *LOL*

...Merry Christmas to All!...

Our stockings are hung by the chimney with care...except for the one that fell down...seriously, one did fall down!...Anyway, we're all snuggled in and waiting for Olde St. Nick to visit tonight...
***
We will be going to Christmas Eve mass tonight and eating meat pie afterwards...yum! It's a yankee tradition( hubby's from Vermont) that my husband grew up with...so it's part of our family tradition now...We also have several southern traditions...it's the best of both worlds!
***
I'm always thankful every year that we are safe and together. However, I wish we could All be together, my parents and sisters live in Virginia...We always talk to each other several times over the phone so we are together in spirit and it's always comforting to hear their voices...I'll always be a kid at heart, I guess!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

...Meet Yard Kitty...

Here's a member of our family that I rarely mention...we call her Yard Kitty... The people who once lived in our house just left her...I would never leave any of my animals and it's hard for me to understand how anyone else would...especially considering her warm personality...
***
It took her about a month to fully trust us when we moved in...now that we have her trust, she bumps up against us and rolls and purrs...She is an outside cat however and she still has a wild streak ... She fends for herself but is lucky to have a bunch of cat lovers like us watching out for her !! I often wonder what could have happened to her if someone else had moved in here and ignored her...I guess we were sent here for a reason...yard kitty!

... Little Merrie Wynter...

Hello, this is little Merrie Wynter...She is a humble little snowgirl who has been searching desperately for a home... She is only a few months old but she is well behaved and will not take much of your time...This primitive little waif loves the winter season but would be perfectly happy to be a part of your life all year long... She is staying in a temporary shelter now...I think it's called ebay...She enjoys visitors and would like it very much if you would stop by to see her...

...Memories in Black and White...

It's that time of the year again when the wonderful old Christmas movies flood AMC and TCM. I look forward to watching them and dreaming of the "simpler times" that they represent... However, I was just thinking the other day as I was watching "A Christmas Carol". The actors in those films were living then as we are living now...With uncertainty in the White House and communist/fascists raising their ugly heads once again and war raging on...They were fighting the same battles we are...These movies were made to uplift the people of that era and portray the love of family and of country and God (not a dirty word back then)...and they did...We still watch them today for the very same reason...
***
Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers are two of my very favorites. Their movies make me laugh and are full of subtleties that are lacking in films today...I can't wait to watch "The Bishops Wife" tonight. If you've never seen it...it is about God and the strength of the human spirit and the goodness in everyone...it's truly a movie that should be running every day of the year...We need to unite not diversify...In these old movies, everyone unites for the good of mankind and I think that is one of their strongest appeals...
***
I hope I haven't bogged you down with my preaching today...This is the time of year...bigger than that...the time in history for our generation to unite for the freedoms we currently enjoy and watch in those "simpler times" on the screen...and don't be afraid to say "Merry Christmas" anymore...they weren't!!

...Tis Friday Again...Already!...

Another week is at an end...how on earth did this happen?! I know you hear me remark on the swift passage of time...all the time!! Well...it really goes by fast !!! Anyway, the house is being slowly decorated and the daily chores are being completed. My little sweet kitty is avidly watching for her window friend...life is normal and good...
***
I have been taking pictures of the house and will be putting them on my picturetrail in a few days...I'll let you know when they're there...I've also got some really primitive dolls(new and extremely primitive!) to list soon...
***
While time passes quickly, sometimes I feel like I'm moving in slow motion...especially this time of the year. I am slowly getting things finished and will be listing soon...please just hang in there...check back regularly...Thanks so much for your patience...
***
Thanks as always for checking out my humble blog...
